We Didn't Let It Rain on Our Parade

Busy Time for Cheer at MHS

We have 54 little ones registered for our cheer clinic!!! That's awesome! Shirts are ordered and parents, you can now start working on the menu for the evening! If you can help anytime between 3:00 and 7:00, please contact one of the officers and let them know! It takes a village to teach little ones cheers! We will be feeding a total of 77 kids (54 little ones and 23 big ones). I am mailing the receipt letters today with the parent pass included. If your big cheerleader would like to have a clinic shirt, they are $5 each.

A rough schedule for that day is:

3:15 start registration in the Sports Complex lobby - it gets hectic at times!
3:30 divide into grades, potty and wash hands, and start some games
3:45 start teaching them chants
4:05 start teaching them cheers
4:25 review chants and cheers
4:30 potty break by grade level
4:40 start working on dance
5:00 Review chants, cheer, and dance
5:10 start washing hands and potty break
5:15 - start feeding by grade level
6:00 - hand out shirts
6:15 - head toward the field
6:25 - get 3-5 on track for performance
6:35 - get K-2 on track for performance
6:40 - all do dance
DONE!!!!!
Remember, all times are approximate! If it worked this easy, I'd be a millionaire :)

Other things on the horizon -

Homecoming is October 1. Varsity will be performing at the pep assembly, jv and varsity will be doing the fight song and some chants at the pep assembly, and both squads will be walking in the parade. And, we are so very honored to have our varsity captain Courtney Baker as one of the queen candidates!!! There will be lots going on that week and as soon as I have a schedule, I'll pass it on to you!

Drive 4UR School event is October 2 - Auffenburg Motors is asking for our help once again. When we assisted them in the spring, they donated $600 to the cheer fund! We can make that much again if the kids volunteer! We will have two shifts that day - 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 and 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. It would be absolutely awesome if we could get about 6-8 kids per shift!

Elk's Hamburger Feed for cheerleaders October 15 - The Elk's Lodge has graciously invited both jv and varsity to a hamburger cook-out before the Oct. 15 game with Moberly. I will have more details on times later.

Senior Night October 22 (?) - Not sure if this is the date yet, but traditionally Senior Night is the last home game of the season. Will have something extra special planned for the senior leader on our squad.

Think that's it for September and October!!! Remember state competition is November 20 and it will be in the late afternoon/evening. As soon as I get more information on that, I will pass it on.

Salute to Veterans home opener

This is going to be quite a busy week! Do not forget that we will have a parent meeting this evening at 6:00 p.m. in room 105 (Mrs. Vitale's room) to discuss the upcoming mini-cheer clinic.

Also, this Friday we are having our first actual pep assembly being around 3:00 at the Sports Complex gym. Should be a fun one! Come on in and enjoy if you are able.

Friday evening will be FULL!!! First the cheerleaders are collecting donations for the Missouri Veteran's Home located here in Mexico. Junior varsity cheerleaders are asked to be at the game and help with this endeavor. We will also be collecting new and gently used DVD's for the DVDs4VETs program. Students are being asked to also bring in DVD's for the next two weeks at school for this great program. All cheerleaders will need to be at Hawthorn Heights no later than 6:00 p.m. Residents of the local veteran's home will be our guests and we will be meeting them at the NE corner/gate and escorting them to their seats on the track at the NW gate. Then, there will be a ceremony dedicating the new chain gang equipment and honoring the memory of Bill Nichols. The cheerleaders will be assiting in getting the family out onto the track. During the first half the jv cheerleaders will be going through the crowd still collecting donations. Half-time will be a patriotic half-time show and honoring all law enforcement and fire fighters. Special guest for the evening will be Miss Audrain Abby Grimmett. She will be assisting in the half time show and signing autographs during the first half of the game.

That's it in a nutshell!!! Be sure and check out the End Zone photo album on my Facebook page for pictures!

Busy Weekend for MHS Cheerleaders

The MHS Varsity and Junior Varsity cheer leaders did an absolutely fantastic job Wednesday at the Welcome Back Assembly. The student body is primed and ready for all the upcoming sporting events! And, although it was a long ride to Hillsboro, they overcame the butterflies in their stomachs for the first game of the year and kept the crowd cheering for the Bulldogs! We didn't get a win, but it was a great game.

Saturday several varsity and jv cheerleaders volunteered to help collect money at the local air show for the Veteran's Home. They were superb!!! Some came early and some stayed later than their assigned shifts! It was a warm day, but they were troopers! A HUGE amount was collected for our local veteran's home. The adults in charge could not thank them enough! And, a giant Bulldog thank you goes out to the local Elk's Lodge for supplying our girls with water, soda, and sandwiches! Working together it is absolutely amazing what can be accomplished!

Mini-cheer clinic forms have been distributed to the elementary schools and should start coming in this week. The mini-cheer clinic is scheduled for September 24. We will need several parents to assist with this endeavor. It is a huge money maker for our kids!

Our first home game is September 10. We will be having a pep assembly that afternoon and that night is our Salute to Veterans game. We will have a patriotic half time show and will be honoring all veterans in attendance. Anyone with a current military ID will be admitted free to the game. Residents of the local veteran's home will be our honored guests for the evening. We will also be collecting money to donate to the veteran's home. Also being honored that evening will be all local law enforcement officials and local fire fighters. And, don't miss the pre-game show. We will be honoring the memory of long time Bulldog fan Bill Nichols.

Starting this week practices go back to their regular times - Tuesday and Thursday 3:30 to 5:30. These are mandatory practices! We are always working on and perfecting new chants, cheers, and stunts.

Again, thanks for you unwavering support of this amazing program. Without all of you this would not be possible!

Kicking Off the Year!

The MHS cheerleaders are working very hard to get ready for the first football game of the season at Hillsboro High School. But, before we ever get that far, we have the Welcome Back assembly on Wednesday, August 25. Both the varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders will be performing the fight song routine with the Dixie Gray Dancers. We will also be leading the student body in a class competition chant. The winning class will be awarded the Spirit Megaphone to use at upcoming football games! The bus for Hillsboro will leave the back of the Sports Complex at 3:45 p.m. Varsity cheerleaders are to report at 3:30 p.m. We should be back in Mexico sometime between 12:30 and 1:00 a.m. The girls will have sack suppers provided before the game and pizza after the game. They will also have water provided.

On Saturday, August 28 the cheerleaders will be collecting donations for the Missouri Veterans Home bus at the Salute to Veterans Air Show at Hagan Brothers Field. We need about six girls each shift. The shifts are 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PLEASE let the coaches know as soon as possible if you can help!

Now for some really great news! New junior varsity uniforms have been ordered! They should be here in about four weeks! Thanks to all of you for working so hard this summer on our fund-raiser! And, the Bulldog Booster Club has graciously agreed to purchase new bags for ALL cheerleaders! That order has also been placed! They should also arrive in about four weeks. By working together it is absolutely amazing what we can accomplish!

Check next week for more information about upcoming games and other activities! The mini-cheer clinic is scheduled for September 24. This is an annual event that is truly a lot of fun for all involved!
